COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE: INITIAL IDEAS

Today myself and Rinesh has a group meeting were we discussed what briefs we had selected and wanted to choose. Looking on what or interests are and what we think our skills would work best in as a group we decided to choose the D&AD Asos brief as our final choice.

We started to brainstorm idea's and research into what already exists in Asos. We also made a list of things that we wanted to include and what deliverables we wanted to produce.

What are the problems?
  • The website is strong, however the app needs to be more intricate and user friendly.
  • What is the new and upcoming way to express style digitally other than street style.

Initial Ideas
  • Excising Apps: market place, Asos buying website, Asos trends (should be combined and simplified for users, location based).
  • Publication: promotional and night time events, music artists, clothing, high culture.
  • Publication format: front half - women. back half - male. centre - map of events.
  • Nightlife feature: specific looks for certain events.
  • Industry standard print.
  • Location specific, or region specific that can be expanded on.
  • Music tapes / Soundcloud: working with styles.
  • Aesthetics: simple and inline with the asks style. Pops of colour.
Deliverables

We then created a proposed list of what we wanted to create for the brief.
  • App.
  • Website: coded if time.
  • 2-3 minuete video: inspiration from 'Le Youth - dance with me'.
  • Mood boards.
  • Publication with fold out poster.
  • Proposed offers for premium customers: similar items from previous buys (buyers trend casting)
Action Plan

From this brainstorm we then started to collect our idea's and create some action plans for the development of the brief. We decided to start by doing some primary features in the form of speaking to people first hand. We created a tumblr account and some business cards which we will hand out to passers by and ask them what they would want from 'Asos' or what they like to do with their fashion.
  • Thursday: Print cards.
  • Saturday: Primary research.
  • Sunday: Collect findings and start looking at content.
Having this talk with my partner was beneficial in creating a plan and some solid research for us to work from.
