Thumbnails
I created a selection of thumbnails of possible formats in which the CD could be produced.
From my thumbnails I decided to keep within the theme of laser cutting the X and having the trademark gradient run through the design. With this in mind I decided to digitally propose and prepare the document for production
Digital Development
I created the design in illustrator and using the measurements from a paper CD case I created boxes within the software to create the design. Due to laser cutting the design I just worked with outlines for the design and used dashed lines for where the design would be kiss cut for folding.
I created two possible cd cover designs that I could use, but when referring back to my thumbnails I thought I could include a slide with all the artist listing in on the inside.
With this in mind I decided to choose the design with a semi circle cut so it would be easy to interact with. I then develop the design further for the final.
I then started creating the slip to go inside the CD case. I wanted to print the design double sided with the festival gradient on the other side to be placed within the logo. I used the same measurements as the CD case and created a extra tab for the CD to sit inside, which will be folded on production.
Production
For the production of my CD case I set up the document on the ethos laser cutting programme and let the design be cut.
I then folded and using double sided sticky take I enclosed the packaging, with the festival listing inside. The process of creating my CD cases was quite a quick turn around due to the laser cutter being really precise. I was really pleased with my design and thought is was a different added extra at a festival that I haven't received or anyone else has from my research.
