INITIAL CONCEPT
For my publication, I wanted it to be simple, yet fun and light hearted. I first made some brain storms surrounding my idea's.
Instead of having generic titles for my topics I created some play on words to bring across the light hearted tone.
THUMBNAILS
I then generated 6 thumbnail designs for each of the double page spreads.
I then enlarged and scaled this design as the majority of the thumbnails I liked followed this format.
DESIGN DECISIONS
I wanted to layout the publication using a verso / recto style for one spread and it juxtaposing on the next. I wanted the design to be like this as it was a different way of displaying the content opposed to the generic verso / recto way. It also gave the publication an opportunity to be fun which is what I proposed in my initial ideas.
I then considered how I could make the header pages stand out and act as a guide for the audience to read the content in the way I intended. I decided to use a CMYK colour scheme as it was something that was featured in the book and is relevant to graphic design.
For the font style I chose Blanch from Lost Type, I felt the type was very legible and modern which were features I had to consider to execute my design.
I wanted to keep the same type measurements throughout the design so I used these numbers as a guideline according to the Blanch font.
Headers: 100pt
Main body copy: 20pt
Sub headings: 36pt
DOCUMENT SET UP
I set up an A5 document on Indesign with a 3mm bleed, 22 pages with 20 facing pages.
10. THE MESSAGE / TONE OF VOICE.
I then experimented with it further manipulating the type, and lips until I cam up with this as my final design.
9. BASIC COLOUR THEORY
I created a 4x3 layout so tat the circles would fit symmetrically in the circles.
Initially I wanted to use 3 circles but forgot that there was more than 3 colours used in some of the basic colour theory headers.

For my initial idea I wanted to use circles to use the colour, however I felt it didn't look right aesthetically.

Reflecting back on my design research I decided to try the squares and overall I felt it looked successful.
8. COLUMNS, GRIDS + MARGINS
I created a 5x4 grid to keep the consistency with the rest of the layout.
I then wanted the information to also act as an image, so I created the design to allocate what each thing meant.
This was my final design.

6. TYPE VS. FONT
