For out initial idea's our group decided on making a poster and app design for our HOW TO brief. I design 10 variations for each design to present to the group to generate brand names and designs.
BRAND NAME AND PURPOSE BRAINSTORMING.
After researching app and poster designs we then started to brainstorm ideas for the brand. We came up with over 20 names but decided to use the name NUYU (new you). We decided to use this name as it was fresh, original and modern.
We then selected a silver and blue colour scheme for the brand because it was clean and simple. The colour blue represents water, freshness and sport and the silver represents class and gym equipment. We also selected what exercises we wanted to include within that poster and app.
My role in the group was to come up with various logo idea's for our brand, I used Adobe Photoshop on a 10x10 format. I also kept to the initial colour scheme that we agreed upon which was white, silver and blue. The colours are not gender specific also.
My initial idea was to keep the letters in box shape as the letters all fitted symmetrically.
I then experimented with the spacing of the letters and with another shape. Using the shapes tool in Photoshop I created a lifting weight and experimented with the placing of the shape. However some of the logo designs made the type illegible or didn't explicitly show it was a lifting weight.
The last design with bascl font, I experimented with using pre made dingbats, downloaded from dafont. This one was called fitness_silhouettes and explicitly shows the purpose of the brand and looks professional.
I developed a logo with a Photoshop based font; Arial Italic. I chose to use italic as it creates a sense of motion in the letters and works relevantly with a fitness brand as it's all about moving and activity. I wanted the design to simple, mass producible and clear which I think is achieved successfully. However the colours are quite dull.
For this design idea I wanted to create something that was simplistic. I decided to use a block font called major minus which was downloaded from dafont. This font connotes a muscular, bold structure which flows well with the fitness and lifestyle of the brand.
I again experimented with the spacing of the font and placed the weight lift centrally and bold to see. I also used contrasting colours from the first design to see if it looked more aesthetically pleasing.
Using another font called Neou from dafont, I wanted to try a Gothic font that was simplistic and clear. I began to develop the weight lift into a character through the letter 'U'. However I felt the design and arrangement of the text wasn't modern and looked tacky.
I again experimented with the arrangement of the weight lift and contrasting colours to see which design was stronger and explicitly represented the brand and what it stands for.
I would put forward these designs to the members in my class to see if they liked any or if any could be developed further.
